Current Issues in Law Enforcement: Use of Force and Community Relations. There is no way to ignore what is happening around us, and it should not be ignored. While George Floyd’s death was not that different from many before him, it did serve as a tipping point. The discussion about bias in policing is now one that everyone is having. And this is a discussion we all should be having, especially those who plan on working (or already do work) in the criminal justice field. So, for this paper I’m looking for some personal reflection. After reading the articles, think about what all of this means for you personally.

How did we get here and what does reform look like? Think about where we go from here. Can we fix these problems? What do the current issues mean for the future of policing? And what about the article you read on posting police complaints; do you believe that posting complaints against individual officers will help increase accountability/transparency? Why or why not? I would like you to conclude your paper with two (2) specific suggestions on what you personally believe we can do to fix the issues, and thoughts on what the future holds for police-community relations.

Your paper should be a minimum of 2 FULL pages (this means you are going on to a third page- even if it is just one sentence) in length and no more than 4 pages. The paper will be typed, double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font. You will use 1 inch margins, and will NOT include any headers or titles. If you want to include a title page for your paper, please make that a separate first page. The only thing that will be included on the pages of your paper is page numbers.
