This assignment entails writing an essay on developments of capital punishment. The first 2 pages will need to be research-oriented, complete with resources. (You will be expected to have a “Works Cited” list of at least 3 sources.

Paper instructions: Students will be responsible for turning in a 4-5 page paper on the subject of either “abortion” or “capital punishment.” The first 2 pages will need to be research-oriented, complete with resources. (You will be expected to have a “Works Cited” list of at least 3 sources. This “Works Cited” does not count toward your page count.) The rest of the essay needs to address the subject from the philosophical position of 1 philosopher discussed in the course, and you will need to take a side in the discussion.

(For example, you could write an essay arguing pro-choice from the position of Marxism, or you could compose an essay arguing against capital punishment from a Kantian point of view.)

In order to do this effectively, you will need to understand the philosophical perspective, not simply be able to say what they said. Primarily, the essay will be graded as a writing assignment with higher expectations; however, I will also be grading your understanding of the philosophical position you have chosen. The rough grading rubric is as follows: Writing must be virtually free of spelling and grammatical errors. Writing with more than three spelling or grammatical errors will be penalized 4 points.

Writing with more than six spelling or grammatical errors will be penalized 6 points. Writing with more than ten spelling or grammatical mistakes will be penalized 10 points. Essays that do not meet the length requirement will be penalized 10 points. Essays without some form of reference list (at least three sources) will be penalized 5 points.
