Assignment 1 – Research Questions, Thesis Statement, and Rhetorical Analysis Question 1- What is the importance Taiwan Strait? Question 2- Why is the current situation between China and Taiwan important to the United States and their allies? Question 3- What impact would it have on the global supply chain if China captured Taiwan and the Taiwan Strait? Thesis Statement: Chinas control over the Taiwan Strait would greatly impact the global supply chain and bring an establishment of a new world power. 1. What is my purpose in writing this paper?

The purpose behind this paper is for me to gain a better understanding to the impact of China and their current actions and future actions not only on my current career in the United States Marine Corps but also my future career in the Supply Chain Management market. 2. What do I already know about my topic? What are my feelings toward this topic? I am currently stationed in Okinawa Japan and considered on to be on the front lines of Americas next great war. This leads to me gaining information that it not readily available to civilians due to my security clearance.

This gives me a better understanding of the current situation and the future actions China might take. My feelings are mixed when it comes to this topic. I understand the time line that China is on and it puts me in a situation where it will be me or possibly my children that will be involved in this potential war. It can also have a drastic impact on my future career. If war breaks out in the Taiwan strait this means companies needing to find other resources and manufactures for their products.

3. What do my readers already know? What are my readers feelings toward the topic? My readers would have either a understanding of how Supply Chain Management in the global market works and the impact of a war in the Taiwan Strait or an understanding of the military and the current training we are undergoing to fight in a war with China. The readers feelings toward the topic can will depend on their political views and current job. One that is in the military will have a different opinion then some on that is currently working in the private sector.

4. What do my readers need to know to understand my point? They will need to know the current state of our military and the steps we are taking to fight a war in the Taiwan Strait. They will also need to know the amount of product that flows through the Taiwan Strait. This will provide the importance of this situation. 5. What information do I need to research and add to my paper?
