Assignment Instructions

Write a dissertation on pride and prejudice as the title suggests. It needs to be a perfect dissertation that is of a high standard. Discuss the representation of power, ideology and female identities in the original 1813 Austen novel. The 1940 adaptation, and pride and prejudice and zombies (2016). The dissertation should have some focus on feminist theory particularly to Mary Wollstonecraft and her impact/relation (in terms of her ideologies) on Austen. Also place Austen in terms of feminism. There needs to be some discussion on adaptation theory, relating/comparing the adapted texts to Austens original.

Further Description-Female Identities

There must be discussion on money and status cementing you in a marriage and relating it to the texts contemporary society. It must show the development of power. Also marriage and female identities within society and how that reflects on the novel and adaptations and show how societies shift towards these have altered the portrayal of such things within the adaptations. There should be mention of Elisabeth a proto feminist who lives in relative poverty essentially rejecting societal Norms even in the original 1813 novel. There should be discussion of comparing female characters as in these heritage movie.

The Bennetts estate Longbourne is portrayed as messy and cluttered whereas when you compare this with the Bingley sisters she is almost portrait like. So you’re going to discuss how people are framed and shot and why are they shown in such angles. How status, power even amongst women, is different for example Lady Catherine Debough. Despite being a widow is wealthy, powerful and dangerous. In addition to the three main texts further discuss the novel Longbourne as it shows pride and prejudice from the perspective of the maids etc. It also reflects that gender is not the only disadvantage to social status but also class. There should be discussion of the differences in clothes extravagance.
