Policy Brief – Antibiotic Resistance through Telemedicine
Write a Policy Brief: Antibiotic Resistance through Telemedicine:
The purpose of the policy brief is to convince the target audience of the urgency of the current problem. In addition the need to adopt the preferred alternative or course of action outlined. Therefore, to serve as an impetus for action. This is different from your policy analysis paper, which was to evaluate a policy outcome. A policy brief is a call to action. Policy briefs can be about changing an existing policy or proposing a new one. For example, you may want to urge readers to change a telemedicine policy that prevents remotely treating someone for an opioid addiction or propose a new policy related to e-cigarettes. This is not a policy analysis; you are providing a proposed policy solution to a public health problem. The brief should focus on one specific topic. Below is information about what we expect the student to include in your paper.
The policy brief should be about four pages single-spaced (which is the only deviation from APA for this assignment). You must include at least one image or graph that supports your point(s). Context and Importance of the Problem The purpose of this element of the brief is to convince the target audience that a current and urgent problem exists that requires them to take action. The context and importance of the problem is both the introductory and first building block of the policy brief. As such, it usually includes the following. A clear statement of the problem or issue in focus. A short overview of the root causes of the problem. A brief explanation of the policy issue(s) related to the problem that clearly establishes the current importance and policy relevance of the issue.
Further Description
Critique of Policy and Present the Option(s). The aim of this element is to detail shortcomings of the current approach or options being implemented and therefore, illustrate both the need for a change in a policy or a new policy. In doing so, this section usually includes the following: A short overview of the policy option(s) in focus. What are you proposing to be done?. An argument illustrating why and how the proposed approach is needed. It is important for the sake of credibility to recognize all opinions in the debate of the issue and when appropriate, back up your claims with research. Policy Recommendations The aim of the policy recommendations element is to provide a detailed and convincing proposal of why a new policy needs to be implemented and what it should contain.
Summary Summarize the key ideas of the paper. Do not introduce any new information Please note that the topic of the paper must be different than the topics of your other two papers.
