Appearance and presence of God-research solution

Paper on how people imagine the appearance and presence of God.

This exercise focuses on the question of how people imagine the appearance and presence of God. Through close comparison of a Biblical text with EITHER a Mithraic OR a Mystical Jewish text.In addition, read the book of Revelation  and Kimberly B. Stratton’s chapter entitled. “The Mithra’s Liturgy and Sep her Ha-Razim,” pp. 303-315 in Religions of Late Antiquity in Practice, Richard Valantasis, ed.  Princeton University Press:  Princeton, NJ, 2000.  [PDF]. Then, write a detailed comparison approximately 3-4 pages, double-spaced of EITHER.The approach to divinity in the Mithras Liturgy (pp. 307-310) or the description of “The Seventh Heavenly Strata” (pp. 313-4) in the Sepher Ha-Razim (“Book of Secrets”).

In addition to the above, use the description of God and the Lamb in Chapters 4-5 of the book of Revelation in the Bible. On the other hand,in your comparisons be sure to address the following questions. Firstly, how is divinity understood or perceived?  What specific qualities, features, surroundings or phenomena indicate the special status of the divinity? Secondly, which elements are present in both texts?  How similarly are they portrayed? Thirdly, which elements are different or distinctive in each text?  What does each do that the other does not? Next, which elements create the most clear and specific visual picture? Finally, are there elements that don’t make sense or that seem particularly hard to visualize?

After (or as part of) your detailed comparisons of how people imagine the appearance and presence of God, please write another 1-2 pages assessing the overall effect and impact of each description. Clearly, discussing how one might account for the striking similarities (or differences) between them.  Be sure to address the following questions. One,what are the feelings, impressions or concerns of the human witness (narrator) as s/he approaches or beholds the divinity? Two, what kind of divinity and what relationship to humankind is implied by each description? Three, what kind of relationship (if any) seems to exist between these two texts?
