Reflection Of Culture – Connection Analysis

Culture Reflection- Assignment Description

This is a small reflection (2 full pages) that seeks to connect the past with the present. To complete this reflection, you will first have to choose two different pieces of culture (i.e. a painting, a sculpture, a speech, a novel, a play, a poem, a film, etc.) with one piece being from an earlier time period (i.e. Stone Age to 1950) and the other being contemporary (i.e. within the last 20-30 years). Then you will use the first page to compare/contrast by side by side listing the major similarities and differences of the pieces (Note. The student will do this in bullet list form or table form). Finally, you will use the second page to write an analysis of where you see connections and how the older art remains significant to today. Requirements: To have the possibility of earning full credit or an above average grade, the assignment must.

Further Directions

Meet the stated length requirements, include content both in a list and written analysis form. Chose appropriate cultural examples that match the topic guidelines, and chose successful points of comparison/contrast. Ex. size is not a meaningful difference typically. There is no set amount of research that we require from the student for this assignment. However, if the student makes use of a source or multiple sources for information, then the student is required to internally and externally cite using appropriate MLA citation. Failure to appropriately cite borrowed work will be considered plagiarism (please see the academic dishonesty section for further information). Grading and Assessment: Assessment and grading will be based on. The thoughtfulness and effectiveness of the student’s cultural choices (for example, why would you compare a stone age bracelet to the Eiffel Tower?).

The significance of the similarities and differences listed (ex. Does it go beyond surface detail to include things like function, purpose, meaning, etc.), and the quality of the analysis. In order to achieve an average grade – “C” or better – all requirements must be followed. Failure to meet the requirements will result in severe deductions and could lead to a failing grade. As always, any written assignments qualifying as plagiarism will receive a zero. This assignment is worth 80 pts of the course total
