For today’s assignment we will focus on organizing a police department. Instructions: You have been appointed the Chief of Police of your own police organization and have sixty (60) sworn law enforcement officers to work with (not including yourself).

Organizing a police department Paper details: This should be a fun project and a formal APA paper is NOT equired. The goal is to see how I would use my 60 law enforcement personnel to build a police department to serve my community. An example organization chart is attached. No minimum or maximum sources but any sources must be in APA format. If you can access the book and cite that it would be helpful. I tried to download the chapter for you to use but it wont let me. The book is Chapter 3 of Part 1 of the book “An Introduction to Policing” by Dempsey, John S.; Forst, Linda S.; Carter, Steven B.

Instructions from Professor: You have been appointed the Chief of Police of your own police organization and have sixty (60) sworn law enforcement officers to work with (not including yourself). You are responsible for twenty-four (24) coverage of your city. Your project will be to write a paper organizing those personnel to include rank structure, function, and job responsibilities. Your project must clearly show how you will accomplish twenty-four-hour coverage for your community, what sections your department will have (patrol, detectives, traffic unit, etc.) and each established function and position must have a clearly written description of the position and job function.

Organizing a police department.

The project paper must include an organizational chart to show chain of command and span of control. You can assume that your records and dispatch personnel are already established and does not have to be included in your police organization and structure. Conclude your project with a statement of how you would like to see the organization grow in the near future. It is critical that you have a clear understanding of the material covered in Chapter 3 of Part 1 of the book “An Introduction to Policing” by Dempsey, John S.; Forst, Linda S.; Carter, Steven B. to properly complete this project paper.

Organizing a police department.

There is no required minimum or maximum word count, but your project should clearly explain and show YOUR police organization that you have designed, the rank and shift structure, span of control, and duties and responsibilities of each section and each position in your organization. Please be sure to properly cite any sources used in APA format.
