Project Proposal- Detailing Research Rationale
Topic:
A research project proposal detailing the research rationale and design and including a literature review in which the student critically evaluates and compares two journal articles based on primary research In early childhood education
Project Proposal – Description
In a proposal you want to demonstrate to your reader that you have a coherent focus for your research. That this is a relevant and timely piece of work. And, that you have a clear idea of how you will generate data. The proposal should include the following sections. Firstly introduction and rationale for project (approx. 600 words) Personal, professional, academic and contextual rationale for project (e.g. why is this study important?). Research aim and question(s) (these are not the field questions) Context and sample for proposed study (e.g. description of where are you doing the study, background and number of people will participate in the study). Secondly a bridged literature review (approximately 1200 words). A critical review and comparison of two empirical studies.
These studies must be from academic journals and be peer reviewed published articles as opposed to books, magazine or website content. They should also relate directly to your topic. The closer these studies are to your proposed topic the better. For this section you can draw on the work you did in sessions three and four about how to read research critically. You will want to briefly outline the articles (i.e. two – three sentences summarizing the overall article). And then engage in the critical, comparative discussion. (Note: For your dissertation you will undertake a more comprehensive literature review which will likely include. But not be limited, to these two studies.) Remember this is an abridged literature which is slightly different to a literature review.
Further Directions
Please remember that for your assessment, you must choose journal articles that are a write up of a piece of research the author has done in a setting. (3) Proposed methodology (approximately 1200 words). This section should include a discussion of the methodology and method(s) (including data analysis) you will employ in your study. You should be sure to present a rationale for your choices (e.g. Why are these appropriate choices for the research questions that you have? What are some of the challenges with your choices and how will you address them?) Subheadings under this section should include -Paradigm.
Research Approach. Secondly research Method; Research design/tools; Sampling Strategy and participants; Data Analysis; followed by further subheadings of: Please note these are all part of the Proposed Methodology section. Subheading – Ethics (approximately 500 words) A discussion of ethical considerations and how they will be addressed in the specific project. Here issues of informed consent, anonymity / confidentiality, data protection, power relations, and reflexivity would be important to discuss.
