Writing a persuasive Letter. 2023 Best

Writing a persuasive Letter.

This assignment involves writing a persuasive Letter. For this exercise, you will be writing a letter to an appropriate person (supervisor, official, administrator, etc.) and seeking very clearly, as did Mr. Adams, to propose a change or a solution to a problem as you see it. You’ll wish to clearly describe the issue, and the solution you seek.

Writing a persuasive Letter.

Exercise During last class, we read and discussed together a well written persuasive letter by a non-traditional Arizona State University student named Gordon Adams. Mr. Adams’ letter was very well constructed, and it was easy to see that he had anticipated the questions that his audience members would have and sought to address them. You, like Gordon Adams, almost certainly know of a meaningful issue that you would like to change as well. It may be a situation at work, within your community at large, within your residential community (neighborhood), or within your school.

I wish to note that this should be a problem that is capable of being amended by the party to whom the letter is addressed—for example, President Wilson alone is not capable of single handedly constructing new parking lots for campuses. For this exercise, you will be writing a letter to an appropriate person (supervisor, official, administrator, etc.) and seeking very clearly, as did Mr. Adams, to propose a change or a solution to a problem as you see it. You’ll wish to clearly describe the issue, and the solution you seek.

We will be discussing the different kinds of evidence which may be used to great advantage in a persuasive piece: facts, statistics, examples, authorities, anecdotes, scenarios, case studies, textual evidence and visuals. Think carefully about what evidence is best suited to convincing your reader(s) that your proposal is valid and worthwhile. This letter should be written in standard letter format omitting the heading and inside address: with date, salutation, body paragraphs, and complimentary close. https://youtu.be/M1irs-qY7Uw

Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008.

Assignment Instructions: The purpose of the Shaping Higher Education project is to provide students an opportunity to identify and discuss how a specific social issue is shaping the administration of higher education. The project requires students to select a social issue that challenges higher education in its current form – administratively, through policy(s) and practice, governance, impact to students, faculty, or staff, etc. This project is intended to develop skills in analyzing the extent to which social issues can shape the administration of higher education, and for students, based on their analysis, to provide possible solutions and/or recommendations to move higher education forward.

Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008.

Students will complete an individual class project as outlined below. Students must submit their proposed topic for approval by the designated due date. The central questions to be addressed in the Shaping Higher Education Project include (in no particular order): 1. How long, historically, has the social problem been in existence, why it continues, and who is affected by it? 2. In what ways does culture play a role in the problem and its resolution? 3. Does this social problem impact all institutions of higher education in the same way? 4. In what ways, if at all, does the social problem reveal itself systemically in the organization and management of higher education?

Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008.

5. Are there individuals/roles within higher education who have the ability to advocate and/or promote change in order to resolve the social problem as it presents within higher education? 6. Are there individuals/entities outside of higher education who have the ability to advocate and/or promote change in order to resolve the social problem as it presents within higher education? 7. What evidence is there that your recommendations for possible solutions are doable? 8. How, if at all, has the social problem been addressed in the past within higher education? 9. How, if at all, is the social problem being addressed now within higher education?

Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008.

10.How would you determine that the changes you are advocating for are successful in positively shaping the impact of the social problem on the administration of higher education? Students will be graded on their ability to apply the information we have studied to a realistic analysis of a social problem that impacts the organization and management of higher education. Students must critically apply the information and concepts we have studied to address the social problem from the perspective of an administrator. There is no “textbook” clear cut solution to most social problems and performing an unbiased analysis of a problem becomes more difficult as we do not always have all the information we need.

Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008.

Possible problems to consider are food scarcity/deprivation; homelessness; civil unrest; health related issues; travel bans; poverty; domestic violence/abuse; sexism; gender bias/discrimination; racism; classism; and many, many more… This list is not all inclusive. Feel free to explore. The project evaluation criteria will include: 1. evidence that you conducted a careful analysis of the social problem, 2. demonstration of reflective analysis of the literature and your topic from a administrative perspective, 3. well-developed arguments (rationale) for your recommendations and conclusions.
