Neuroticism – Effects on Social Media Addiction

The effects of neuroticism and social anxiety on social media addiction

The aim of this study is to find a correlation between neuroticism and social anxiety/phobia on social media addiction. Many studies over the years have found that people avoid interacting with others in external environments due to being fearful of people’s opinions and views on them, this results in submissive and withdrawn personalities. Studies have also shown that as smartphones have grown increasingly popular, some have started to view them as a necessity. The use of apps such as Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter and YouTube has grown exponentially over the past 5 years and is increasing daily. The aim is to examine whether individuals compensate for the lack of social communications and interconnections in real life by using social media platforms compulsively.
