The genesis of social entropy. 2022 Best

For this assignment we will explore  the genesis of social entropy. In The Evolving Self, the author makes the point that failure to achieve a self that combines interconnectedness along with complexity and integration results in social entropy (Chapter 9).

The genesis of social entropy.

FINAL Paper Prompts for PHL 230* Fall, 2022 Answer one question of your choice. In 8 pages, write a well-formulated response to one of the questions posed below. As in your first paper, make sure that you develop your thoughts in well-formulated arguments, and in a manner that is well-organized. 1) In The Evolving Self, the author makes the point that failure to achieve a self that combines interconnectedness along with complexity and integration results in social entropy (Chapter 9). What is the genesis of this social entropy, and how and why are complexity and integration crucial for the transcendent self to continue evolving?

The genesis of social entropy.

2) Starting with an incontrovertible need for faith to continue the project of continued evolution (to prevent what the author calls, “ a monstrous evolutionary miscarriage” p.276 chapter 9, in chapter 10 the authors writes: “And when we start to identify with the evolution of complexity, when we begin to recognize our kinship with the rest of creation, then it will be easier for us to free ourselves from the constricting needs of the self, from the terror of meaningless mortality,” p.292 (Chapter 10).

What does the author mean by this? How are the conditions for the emergent transcendent self tied to this recognition and how do we escape the meaningless of mortality—as described throughout the book—by the author to live a life of flow and deep meaning?

The genesis of social entropy.

3) Todd May’s goal in a Decent Life is —among other things— to permit us to live a decent life without falling into a self-sacrificial life of altruism that might be too demanding of persons as we find them in the empirical world. In A Significant Life, the chief goal seems to be how to craft a meaningful life predicated on narrative values and moral values. How does Ayn Rand’s essay, THE OBJECTIVIST ETHICS, attempt to address the question of altruism by diverting the question of whether altruism is ever a proper moral standard by which to appraise a meaningful life?

That is, why for her is altruism evil to begin with, and a moral goal no person of self-esteem should pursue?

The genesis of social entropy.

Rand believes that the pursuit of one’s rational happiness is one’s highest moral purpose and the end of human striving. May claims in A Significant Life that happiness is not enough. Where do you find yourself in the debate between Rand and May? Is self-esteem, as Rand defines it in its literal sense (placing the interests of others above one’s own; and serving others in order to justify one’s existence) truly so reprehensible that it ought to be purged from any moral metric; a metric that states in its inverse form: altruism is noble, but it is too hard for us to practice?

Rand would say: Altruism in calling for the individual to be a sacrificial animal is too evil a phenomenon for any self-respecting person to aspire towards.

The genesis of social entropy.

Formulate a thesis statement around any of the aforementioned formulations and write an essay defending a position you have staked out. 4) This question is taken from Chapter 4—Predators and Parasites in the “Further Thoughts” section at the end of the chapter. It reads: Those of us who were born in the technologically advanced “first world” automatically inherit advantages that are envied and resented by many third-world natives, who feel exploited by us. Their trees go to make our furniture, their air is fouled by our emission, they are forced to trade nonrenewable raw materials and labor for cheap manufactured goods.

DO we have a responsibility to ameliorate this state of affairs? And if yes, what can you do about it? P.115 (Chapter 4). https://youtu.be/mAOIW3yxjTU

Treatment plan according to DSM 5 TR 2022 Best

For this assignment we will create a treatment plan according to DSM 5 TR. After reading the case study, “Shan Yates,” give him a… 1) DSM 5/5 TR diagnosis. (There are 5 primary diagnoses for this case! You may give specifiers if confident, but these are not mandatory.)

Treatment plan according to DSM 5 TR

Paper details: FINAL CASE STUDY ADDICTION DISORDERS Instructions: Please use one (1) page only for your answers. After reading the case study, “Shan Yates,” give him a… 1) DSM 5/5 TR diagnosis. (There are 5 primary diagnoses for this case! You may give specifiers if confident, but these are not mandatory.) 2) Give your rationale leading to this diagnosis? (If necessary, a rationale for each.) This should be a few sentences for each one, but give enough information to show me how you came to this answer.

Treatment plan according to DSM 5 TR

3) Give a brief treatment plan for Shan. Prioritize it, and customize it for this client. BE SURE YOU NAME IS ON THE RETURN ANSWER SHEET!!!  Case Study Shan Yates Shan, a 34 y.o. African American college student, presented for evaluation of chronic mood instability. His symptoms had persisted and worsened in the decade since he returned from a 12-mo. military tour in Iraq. Shan denied having had significant psychiatric symptoms prior to the enlistment. During his deployment, he worked in transportation, and although he was not directly involved in combat, he “lost many comrades.”

Treatment plan according to DSM 5 TR

This was his first psychiatric evaluation. He did not like to talk about this stuff, but his wife insisted. Upon presentation, Shan reported that his mood was “down.” He felt that he was “sleepwalking” most of the time and enjoying his wife or 2 young children. He reported restlessness, as well as uncalled-for vigilance whenever he went to public places. He avoided driving, especially over bridges, and preferred to stick around the neighborhood. His sleep was regularly interrupted by vivid, disturbing dreams about “bombs and land mines.”

Treatment plan according to DSM 5 TR

After several years of underemployment that was partly attributable to these symptoms, his wife had convinced him to go back to college to have more job flexibility in the future. Page 2 Case Study “Shan” Mr. Yates reported concentration difficulties since his return from the service. Cocaine initially helped, but his ability to study declined with escalating cocaine use. He reported some guilt related to sexual behavior while using, but he denied feelings of worthlessness or hopelessness. He had a remote history of passive suicidality (fleeting thoughts), but he denied suicidal ideation and suicide attempts.

Treatment plan according to DSM 5 TR

His appetite was good, and he denied any history of panic attacks, mania, psychosis, or obsessive-compulsive symptoms. He denied a history of psychiatric hospitalization or outpatient treatment. There was no family psych history aside from a father with alcohol abuse. Shan Yates first consumed alcohol on the weekends when he was age 14. He had an early high tolerance, requiring 1 pint of alcohol to “get drunk.” Shan reported that his drinking escalated somewhat in the military – “maybe a little out of control” – and that he experiences regular blackouts.

Treatment plan according to DSM 5 TR

After discharge, he would typically drink 1 pint every 2-3 days, but sometimes more. During periods of heavy use, he had occasional morning tremors that were resolved by drinking. He denied other withdrawal symptoms, but the morning drinking reminded him of his father, who ultimately died of cirrhosis at age 55, so he began to limit his drinking to weekends. Since the onset of frequent cocaine use, he began to use alcohol to “come down” from his cocaine high. He denied a history of legal complications or arrests.

Treatment plan according to DSM 5 TR

In high school, Shan smoked cannabis socially, never smoking more than twice per month. During the year prior to the evaluation, he found that marijuana helped with insomnia and he began to crave it every evening. His wife objected, arguing that he would eventually get caught by the police or by their children. He continued to use marijuana, despite the nightly arguments, because cannabis led to the greatest likelihood that he would sleep without nightmares. Shan identified cocaine as his overall drug of choice.

Treatment plan according to DSM 5 TR

He had first used cocaine after he left the service. He primarily snorted it but also experimented with smoking crack. He denied ever using IV. Over the prior year, the cocaine use cost him $200/week. He found himself pawning items for money and missing classes and work. He became especially depressed after using. Because of his use, he was making little progress at this school work and had lost at least 3 jobs because of it. Shan consumed other substances when readily available, such as PCP, benzos, and ecstasy. https://youtu.be/K4beOGqjfB8

A freelance TV writer 2022 Best

Pretend you’re a freelance TV writer working in the 1960s. Your agent scored you a pitch meeting with the story editor of Star Trek. You’ve been sent and have already read the writer’s guide.

A freelance TV writer

Star Trek Paper details: Pretend you’re a freelance TV writer working in the 1960s. Your agent scored you a pitch meeting with the story editor of Star Trek. You’ve been sent and have already read the writer’s guide. (We’ve been assigned to read the “series bible” for original Star Trek Links to an external site.). Based upon the rules of the Star Trek world as lined out in the series bible, come up with a short pitch for a Star Trek episode. Imagine a good science fiction premise that would be interesting to watch and that would make sense within the established world of the series. This is not a screenwriting class, so I’m not concerned with format.

A freelance TV writer

Just answer the following questions: What’s the title of your episode? What happens to the Enterprise crew at the beginning of the episode? What’s the problem (crisis) that tells us what will drive the plot of this episode? What main guest character (if any) does the crew meet? What’s their name? Are they friendly or not? How do they affect the story? What plan does the Enterprise crew (or a subset of the crew) make to solve the problem? What goes wrong, or what obstacles arise that put the plan at risk?

A freelance TV writer

How is the problem resolved? What’s the science fiction element (or “hook”) that makes the story interesting? What’s the personal element that makes us empathize with one or more of the series regulars as they grapple with the problem? What is the theme or themes of the episode? What questions about the human condition does it ask (or answer)? While you may create characters and situations for the Enterprise crew to encounter and interact with, you MAY NOT cross over the Enterprise crew with another set of characters from an existing fictional universe.

A freelance TV writer

Remember that you’re a 60s freelance writer who wants a job writing for this show. Crossing over with another show is not on the table, nor is it a good showcase of your imagination and writing talents. Follow the rules as set forth in the writer’s guide. THIS IS A PITCH. Tell us just enough to get us interested in hiring you to write the scripts. DON’T write the scripts. I strongly recommend you draft it, set it aside for a couple of hours, then look it over and polish it into a second draft, eliminating unnecessary details and writerly flourishes.

While at the same time make sure it’s written in clear and direct language that your reader will easily understand. https://youtu.be/r2B_dn8gVV8

A freelance TV writer

TIP: This is a class on World Building, so do some world building. Poorly done or boring pitches talk about the Enterprise crew meeting generic “aliens” with no further descriiption or no named characters. What do your aliens look like? What is their morphology? How is their society structured differently from our own? How is their planet or climate different from Earth? What are the names of the individuals our crew encounters? What interesting technology do they possess?

Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy 2022 Best

For this week, we are writing our first rough draft on your initial chosen topic (Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy) during week 1 Your paper serves to answer level 1 and level 2 questions.

Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy

Writer’s Choice Paper details: For this week, we are writing our first rough draft on your initial chosen topic during week 1 Your paper serves to answer level 1 and level 2 questions. The level-one question examples in the assignment are provided in a box; pick one from each prompt Level 2 questions are more specific, and examples are also provided in the example. You will make this question up in relation to your chosen topic. It’s the basic background information you want to discuss in your health topic.

Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy

If your topic is Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy, known to be caused by severe emotional stressors (Mafredini et al., 2010), you can begin by discussing the physiology and anatomy of the issue (scientific). For mathematics, you can explain the prevalence of it in the US, globally, across populations, etc. For level 2 questions, you can dive into some focused research to see if there is a higher incidence of Taktsubo associated with experiences with violence.

Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy

You may be especially interested in the cardiac-related deaths of family members of victims of police violence [such as Erica Garner (Levenson, 2017) and Marquis A. Jefferson (Maxouris & Silverman, 2019)]. Since your choice is fairly narrow, you can search EBSCO host, PubMed, and Proquest. In EBSCO host, you will choose all of the databases to be sure to get many results. This week, you have 2 assignments Submit on Discussion Board your rough draft on Wednesday; it’s ok if you don’t have all five pages done; anything is better than nothing.

Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy

Make sure at least two peers have edited your paper on the discussion board; replies are due by Sunday. The purpose is to have many eyes assist you in revising your paper. Submit your scientific/mathematical paper (due Sunday) Some key things I will look for in the paper: Formal writing with an objective point of view: don’t include “I think, I feel, or I believe” Don’t say you at all (like you should get a mammogram). Answer your level 1 & level 2 questions with evidence and citations.

Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy

Have an introduction with a problem statement like This paper will review…This paper will explain…be clear about your purpose. Use peer-reviewed sources, not news articles or websites for the general public. CDC and WHO are ok. Help paraphrasing: https://integrity.mit.edu/handbook/academic-writing/avoiding-plagiarism-paraphrasing (Links to an external site.) Remember, correlation is not causation.
