Advancing College Reading

Paper instructions: To complete this assignment: First, read Chapter 3 in John Langan’s Ten Steps to Advancing College Reading using the SQ3R method. Take notes over the chapter OR take notes presented in class from the PowerPoint on Chapter 3. This chapter covers Supporting Details and is broken into 3 main ideas: Outlining, Mapping, and Summary. Next, organize your notes from the chapter into a formal outline. You do not need to outline any of the “Check Your Understanding” or “Practice” sections in the chapter.

Advancing College Reading

Use the points below as a guide: This outline will be your NOTES on the chapter content, so make sure they are detailed. These notes should cover Supporting Details and the concepts of Outlining, Mapping, and Summary on pages 103-118 in your textbook. DO NOT include “Check your Understanding” or “Practice” sections. Your outline will most likely contain multiple main ideas and multiple major and minor details for each main idea. There is no set number of major/minor details you need to have, but your notes should be detailed enough that someone who hasn’t read the chapter would understand the concepts of Outlining, Mapping, and Summary.

Advancing College Reading

Explain as many of the important points and examples in your own words; this shows a deeper level of understanding than copying the author’s words. The outline should have at least 3 levels. Check to make sure your levels are lined up correctly and that they all support the main idea. You do not need to write everything in complete sentences, but it is helpful to have the main ideas in sentence form. The outline needs to be clear and legible. https://youtu.be/IsrZelE4CXs

The Tell Tale Heart

Likely not! You may steal this topic if you wish 🙂 THE TOPIC IS : “Would “A Tell-Tale Heart be quite the same if told by another narrator?” !!!!!!!! Submit your paper to the assignment, and know that Unicheck will be used for plagiarism detection. Please, use your own original ideas in a concise but clear and formal short paper. scoring criteria 5. essays clearly demonstrate an insightful understanding of the topic/ work of literature and appropriate literary element(s) within that work. There is depth of analysis and not too much summary. There are little to no grammatical or sentence level errors getting in the way of ideas.

4. essays are somewhat less thorough or lack the depth of a 5 essay.

The Tell Tale Heart

While the essay is generally free of errors, it may treat the topic or work more simplistically or need a bit more explanation. 3. essays only adequately address the literary work or terms. Kant versus Du Bois 2022 Best

Kant versus Du Bois

For this assignment we will read about Kant versus Du Bois, then respond to the following question: What response would philosopher Kant have on beauty after reading about what W.E.B. Du Bois thinks about beauty?

Kant versus Du Bois

Paper details: Please write a two page paper responding to this philosophical question that I have proposed: What response would philosopher Kant have on beauty after reading about what W.E.B. Du Bois thinks about beauty? Here are some things that might help in the question answering: You don’t need to spend a lot of time citing directly from the text. Unless it is a specific term you need to define for the analysis, paraphrase and summary are fine. Spend your time developing a single point. You don’t have time to pursue multiple lines of inquiry or writing a 5-paragraph essay for this.

Kant versus Du Bois

You will want to be able to articulate not only the what of the argument but the how – the connective tissue. How does this thinker build the argument. Focus your analysis on the relationship between art and society. (It’s a class on aesthetic theory, after all). Plan on writing two pages or so. Also there is a link on an article that explains a bit further on what Kant’s ideas of beauty are in general. I can provide it for you in the chat just to help you on the writing. Please only reference the readings and not the article. https://youtu.be/9WQCLuuNHUU

Analysis of Rodriquez arguments. 2022 Best

Analysis of Rodriquez arguments.

This is an analysis of Rodriquez arguments. You’ll first have an introductory paragraph where you’ll introduce Rodriguez and his book’s title; you’ll also note the two arguments to be analyzed (never use “I” or “we” or “our” or “you” in your essay–if you have to use a pronoun, use “one”); finally, in that introductory paragraph, you’ll note briefly the possible fallacies Rodriguez commits.

Analysis of Rodriquez arguments.

In your second paragraph, you’ll summarize in your own words the first Rodriguez argument you mentioned in your introduction: Summaries are written in your own words: don’t use any quotations or even paraphrases in your summary. I need to know if you can accurately summarize Rodriguez’ arguments.

Analysis of Rodriquez arguments.

You’ll only summarize the first argument in this second paragraph. In your third paragraph, you’ll then begin to analyze Rodriguez’ argument: Now you need to quote phrases or brief sentences (no long quotations–you can’t use any block quotations) to illustrate your analysis. Make sure you’re analyzing statements that might very well be examples of Rodriguez’ fallacious reasoning (again, that’s why I selected his text: He commits plenty of fallacies). And you want to also briefly quote something out of the Boardman, Cavender, and Kahane text; you must do so, but keep such quotations to a brief length.

Analysis of Rodriquez arguments.

What you can’t do is quote some other sources: Your ability to logically reason is the main point of this essay, NOT your ability to find other sources that comment on Rodriguez: That would be plagiarism since your reasoning is what’s needed, not some outside source’s logic. You might need another paragraph of analysis if you break down the argument into two or more major fallacies. After you’ve analyzed the first argument mentioned in your introduction, now repeat the process: Your next paragraph will summarize the second Rodriguez argument. Again, you use your own words: Don’t paraphrase or quote in your summary.

Analysis of Rodriquez arguments.

After the second summary, then start analyzing the second argument in the same manner in which you analyzed the first one. Again, you might need two paragraphs of analysis if you’ve decided to focus on two or more major fallacies. Your concluding paragraph will NOT repeat your introduction which is basically your thesis; rather, you’ll end your essay with an insight: What insight can you provide the reader about Rodriguez and his arguments? I hope you’ve examined the sample paragraphs I placed in the module for this assignment.

Analysis of Rodriquez arguments.

Keep in mind the other requirements: use a semicolon in every paragraph; use a colon in every other paragraph; use a subordinated sentence in every paragraph (those subordinated sentences must begin with subordinating conjunctions like if, when, although, even though, because, as, whenever, while, and other subordinating conjunctions I’m forgetting at the moment); use complete sentences (no sentence fragments allowed); use topic statements to guide the development of your body paragraphs; use transitional words and phrases both at the beginning of body paragraphs and within them. https://youtu.be/gelUiR4Mn0I

Work-family conflict. 2022 Best

Work-family conflict.

This is a critical reflection discussion board & response on work-family conflict. The discussion boards exist for two purposes. First, they allow students an opportunity to interact with one another as well as their instructor.

Work-family conflict.

Welcome to your Critical Reflection Discussion Board & Response Post Assignment.  The discussion boards exist for two purposes. First, they allow students an opportunity to interact with one another as well as their instructor. Secondly, they create a venue in which students can critically engage with course material, asking questions and finding applications for course concepts. For this assignment, each critical reflection should address the module as a whole, which includes readings/videos posted to Canvas and the textbook chapters. I’m not looking for a synthesis or summary of the module, which means you are welcome to pick and choose what readings, videos, or chapters you want to address in your reflection and discussion questions.

Work-family conflict.

For the standard discussion board, each student is expected to make two posts. The original post (Post 1) is the most involved and requires students to interpret course materials on their own by writing a critical reflection and then posing five discussion questions for their classmates based on course material. Your critical reflection should be approximately 750-1,000 words. The response post (Post 2) is interactive and requires each student to respond to five of the questions posed by a classmate. Each answer should be one to two fully-developed paragraphs. What is a critical reflection?

Work-family conflict.

A critical reflection (also called a reflective essay) is a process of identifying, questioning, and assessing our deeply-held assumptions – about our knowledge, the way we perceive events and issues, our beliefs, feelings, and actions. When you reflect critically, you use course material (lectures, readings, discussions, etc.) to examine our biases, compare theories with current actions, search for causes and triggers, and identify problems at their core. Critical reflection is not a reading assignment, a summary of an activity, or an emotional outlet. Rather, the goal is to change your thinking about a subject, and thus change your behavior.

Work-family conflict.

How to Critically Reflect: Writing a critical reflection happens in two phases: In the first phase, analyze the issue and your role by asking critical questions. Use free writing as a way to develop good ideas. Don’t worry about organized paragraphs or good grammar at this stage. In the second phase, use your analysis to develop a clear argument about what you learned. Organize your ideas so they are clear for your reader. Below are three perspectives you can consider: Academic perspective: How did the experience enhance your understanding of a concept/theory/skill? Did the experience confirm your understanding or challenge it?

Work-family conflict.

Did you identify strengths or gaps in your knowledge? Personal perspective: Why does the experience matter? What are the consequences? Were your previous expectations/assumptions confirmed or refuted? What surprised you and why? Systems perspective: What were the sources of power and who benefited/who was harmed? What changes would you suggest? How does this experience help you understand the organization or system? For the full reading about writing a critical reflection, please click here: https://uwaterloo.ca/writing-and-communication-centre/critical-reflection (Links to an external site.)

Work-family conflict.

The questions below are to help you reflect on course material. You do not need to answer all of them. You may want to pick one or two to help you get started. Questions to get you started: What did the readings/videos mean to you? What stood out to you the most and why? What was most surprising, intriguing or challenging about this material? What are the next steps now that you’ve learned this information. For example, what would like to do, read, or learn more about? What are some of the similarities or differences between the material you learned in this module and other courses (could be graduate or undergraduate courses)? https://youtu.be/BVwnpbLzVD8

Dupont’s intentional poisoning 2022 Best

Dupont's intentional poisoning

This paper explores Dupont’s intentional poisoning of mongrelized communities and the planet. Paper details: Paper Details: INTRODUCTION: Your introduction will need to introduce the issue and invite your readers into the conversation. In the opening paragraphs of your paper, you will be familiarizing your readers with the controversy surrounding the issue of your argument

Dupont’s intentional poisoning

Paper details: Paper Details: INTRODUCTION: Your introduction will need to introduce the issue and invite your readers into the conversation. In the opening paragraphs of your paper, you will be familiarizing your readers with the controversy surrounding the issue of your argument. You will provide the information needed for your audience to understand the issue at hand and make sense of the conversation. For a paper of this length, the introduction will require multiple paragraphs. THESIS/MAIN CLAIM: You are not going to write a researched report. Rather, you will be writing an academic argument where your goal is persuasion.

Dupont’s intentional poisoning

The main claim in an academic argument contains the following components: (1) The writer’s position on the issue; (2) central reason for holding that position; (3) acknowledgment of alternative views. Generally, all three of these components will not fit in a single sentence. AUDIENCE: You should direct your argument not to me but to a larger, college-educated audience, and the most effective papers address a more focused audience. For example, if your topic is the role of technology in the classroom, do you want your focused audience to be teachers? Publishers? In considering your audience, you will need to provide necessary background information, full and accurate signal phrases, and accurate citations.

Dupont’s intentional poisoning

POINT OF VIEW: You will need to adopt (for the majority of your paper) the objective third-person point of view. Avoid too personal second person (you, you’re, your) and first person (I, me, my). SUPPORT & DEVELOPMENT: In the body of your argument you will present logical reasons to back up your main claim, and these reasons will be substantiated with reliable evidence. You will need to communicate your position clearly and persuasively; however, you must not alienate potential audience members. All claims are, in many ways, opinions, so you must be careful not to mistake your opinion for fact.

Dupont’s intentional poisoning

Thus, within the body of your paper, you will need to summarize and respond to objections, counterarguments, and alternative views through refutation and/or concession. Writing arguments involves truth-seeking in addition to persuasion; in writing your argument, you will need to carefully consider all sides of the issue. In addition, readers need to be able to follow your unfolding position. To achieve that “flow” and cohesion, you will need to construct strong paragraphs that continue to tie in the body of your argument with your main claim. SOURCES: In the final draft of your research paper, you will be required to integrate at least 8 sources.

Dupont’s intentional poisoning

Only sources that are relevant to your purpose, reputable, and credible should be integrated into the paper. Use of appropriate signal phrases, accurate summary/paraphrase/quotation, and MLA documentation (parenthetical references and works-cited entries) is expected. STYLE: You will follow MLA style for all page set up and documentation conventions. Please include the sources in the attached annotated bibliography and add new sources to get to eight total sources. Also please follow the research proposal attached as as guide. https://youtu.be/px-FMRjxEZo
